Alton Bucheimer, a trans Filipino glass artist, was born December 1st, 1992. He was raised in Middletown Maryland. Alton began blowing glass in 2009 at 16 years old as an apprentice for a local studio. He went on to receive his BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2014 with concentration in glass. He then moved to Seattle WA, where he currently lives and works. His studio practice is greatly influenced by quantum mechanics and theoretical physics. Alton resonates with the understanding of superposition, where matter can exist across a range of potential states until measured or observed. As a trans biracial man his physicality and identity have oscillated between varying states throughout his life. Alton has received residencies at the Pilchuck Glass School, the Tacoma Museum of Glass, and HillTop Artists. He has recently started exhibiting work in group shows around the Seattle area and is working toward his first solo show.
